    I DON’T BELIEVE IT...

Has it really been 10 years that we have enjoyed playing with the revolutionary iPhone? ...

So, now we are nearly there, what are we expecting and what can be unravelled from the rumour mill surrounding this most anticipated of all the iPhone thus far... :D

    Are we excited?... :sneaky:

Are we going to jump in, or wait?... ;)

    DISCUSS... :rog:

Well, one rumour is that the pricing will be way much higher for this one I hope the rumour is false. If Apple haven't really enhanced battery life in this new one I really hesitate to pay the sums I heard - from USD 1000 and higher. I want maximum storage and a plus version but I am afraid the price will stop me.

I've had my 7+ for only a year so I'll wait until next year (2018) before I buy a new one. I am, of course, very anxious to see what the 8 offers. Hopefully, the rumors about the price are incorrect for those wishing to purchase now.

The one thing I can think of that would tempt me is dual lenses on a non-Plus size phone.

Egads. How can it get any higher?!? :barf: My 7 Plus was US $900+! The only reason I even have it is because of the monthly payment plan my carrier offers.

I definitively won't be getting it any way as I've only had my 7 for less than a year... will wait at least 2 more years to upgrade (and even that seems wasteful to me.... but I get s.....u.....c.....k.....e.....d - i.....n

I had already decided I would get the iPhone 8 before I bought my 7+. It's bound to be great. After all, there are 2 people depending on me to get my hand-me-down phones so it's an entirely selfless act on my part. Except, I'm the one paying. Hmmm. I'm pretty happy with my 7+.
It would be nice if I didn't also have to change other stuff from my 7+ to fit it.

Imagine if they could also run iOS apps. Then you'd have something.

    Riding the wave.
In past years I have tended to hang back on new software releases (on my computer) waiting to see everything was OK before jumping in. Invariably, what happened is that I couldn't participate in any of the current discussions/workshops/tutorials because I didn't have the new version that all the buzz was about. Later, I was just playing catch up and things new to me were old news to everyone else.
It is somewhat similar with iPhone hardware. How can you work with things like portrait mode if you don't even have dual lenses? In photography, portrait mode is a very significant mark in smartphone history. This was one thing the DSLR users could point to and say, "but you can't do this on a smartphone".
Well now it is turning out there are more and more things you can do on a smartphone (OK, iPhone, since that's more what I know about) that you simply can't do on a DSLR.

I've decided it is better to bite the bullet and jump in and ride the wave, be on the forefront, be there or be square, etc., rather than sit back and watch everyone else have all the fun.

I really enjoy experimenting with and exploring new technology and it is important I can discuss new things in my photography workshops.
On the other hand, this also supposes you actually have time to spend working with the new features.

I always like to play with new toys. I know, to spend many hundreds of $/€ every two years (my iPhone live cycle) is not a very smart decision, I know. My iPhone 6s+ would suffice easily for four more years. I can make telephone calls, photos, internet and so on even with a six year old phone. But were is the fun? I want to be unreasonable here.

Especially since making phone calls is one of the least used functions. For me, buying the 8 would jump me to only a 1 year cycle since I just bought the 7+ a year ago. But I don't think I will stay on a 1 year cycle. Then there's the iPad to catch up on.

The price of new devices, not just Apple, is going to push people into 3 year cycles eventually.

They have to split the model range into low and high price.

I'm spending my next wad of cash on an iPad Pro 12.9. I'll be watching the reviews on the iPhone 8 though.

These wads of cash you speak of. Do they appear magically? I could use a new source of cash. I imagine there will be new iPad models, too.
In a way I wish the new models were spaced out more, like two or three years instead of one. Take more time to fully develop a new product. Give us more time to save up. Give us more time to be fully ready for a new model. Next thing you know there will be new models every 6 months.

I put a fixed amount of money into a savings account each paycheck. I work at a school so I have 20 paychecks each year. In June, school is out for 2 months and I buy myself a present. This past summer it was an iPhone 7 plus. So, no, not from a tree. And, hopefully I'll be retiring soon, so those wads are coming to an end.
