We will invite members to edit one of our images. Images will be available for one week. We'll take four names at a time (see list here).

People offering an image will give some guidance/make some specific(ish) requests, e.g:
    • I'd like to see this image *pop* more
    • Not sure of the best crop
    • Any iColorama [or other app] suggestions?
    • How would you make this image into a mono?
    • How would you make it an abstract?
    • I seem to have lost the detail of the building/tree/people - can you bring it back without losing the fog?
    • How would you make the most of this mistake I made?
    • Only straight processing, please - nothing 'arty'
    • Knock yourself out - surprise me!
    • And so on

    Roolz for contributing editors:
    1. Please respect requests (and the image) of the person offering. I.e: Don't offer a Decim8'd abstract if s/he has asked for 'straight processing only'. And vv. Don't add anything to the image that the original maker wouldn't be able to add her/himself: i.e., nothing from your own camera roll.
    2. Please provide a brief summary of and rationale for your editing processes (this is a group learning process).

    Roolz for people offering images:
    1. Please be clear about what you'd like to see from others' expertises (see example q's above).
    2. Please acknowledge and comment briefly on each edit offered -- and offer a little wrap-up at the end of the week. Anything that struck you about a particular edit of your image? Something you've learned? An app you simply must purchase & learn? However you wrap up is up to you: but we'll all be holding our breath to hear what you think.

Please browse the thoughtful feedback and comments from our beta testers here
See the beta tests #1 #2 #3 and #4 for examples of previous questions and offered edits

    Mobi Challenge guidelines are here.

Image #12 will be from chimera !

Ok, here goes. On rare occasions, I capture an image that to me looks perfect just the way it is, raw and unedited. This photo, taken with my old iPhone 5, is one example. This is Haystack Rock on the Oregon cost. You may remember this iconic rock from the movie, Goonies. Anyone?

I'm leaving this one open to your artistic talent, but what I want to see is your interpretation of taking an already excellent image, and make it even better. Go!

Okay. This is a great image in its own right, but a bit monochrome for me. I thought I'd do my usual with some cropping and then, when I was in Mextures, I saw the footsteps in the sand. So I cropped in Snapseed and then put that image through some Mextures imported formulas and chose this one. You can't say it's dull.:D

I liked Jilly's idea of recropping and trying to accentuate the footsteps, so as a first step, I came up with this simple variation using (what else?) Snapseed and ACDSee Pro.

Well, I'm not sure that I made this "even better", but it was fun to create an abstract. I almost didn't upload it then said What the heck! Started off flipping the image and blending it back with itself, then I played around in Union, Tangent, iColorama and Snapseed.

Not an improvement, but different. I thought I'd try adding some words and a vintage Polaroid-y feel. Enlight and Stackables.

Gorgeous. Your edit ratchets up the mood & intensity and really makes the most of those subtle footprints.

As you say, Ted, chimera brings an interesting twist with 'make my excellent image even better' :lmao: Personally, I think after 'excellent' the best you can hope for is 'different in an interesting/useful/aesthetically pleasing way'.
Luckily Mobitoggers are rarely nonplussed, and JillyG and RoseCat have taken up the challenge with their usual panache.
Jilly, your colourful sunset brings those silhouetted rocks to life: and your Polaroid version had me off on a Tom Waits nostalgia for a good ten minutes (plus remembering a movie of the same name of which all I recall is Ellen Barkin seeming to take off her clothes a lot).
Catherine how did you get that image through Fragment etc and keep it so soft and painterly ?? And I see a profile in there that makes me want to outline it in charcoal :appsir: :alien: :inlove:

That Ellen Barkin film could be any one of hers as I recall. Thank you for your words - we miss them when you're not here.

BTW, I bet Catherine wouldn't mind if you wanted to take her image and outline it in charcoal in some app or other.

    Absolutely! Go for it Jen...

I got the soft tones with Snapseed (I think one of the Noir filters?) And I just added a shape with Fragment and turned down the saturation.

Wow! I love the color enhancement. I'm probably staying the obvious, but it pushes it to the unnatural color point, but tue colors are so beautiful and vibrant, I love it. Great work thank you!

Lovely rendition you've created. I'm completely embarrassed to admit it, but I don't think I ever saw the footsteps in the sand. I may have at the time I capture it, but forgot about it later. A definite improvement. I've so much to learn. Thank you. Beautiful editing.

That's a great take on the image love the vintage look on Polaroid paper. The words, perfect. Creative concept on editing. Thank you very much! I'm excited to share everyone's work with my girlfriend. Each and everyone of you have really given the image new life and perspective to the original. Kudos!

This is great. It really causes you to spend extra time taking in the image. It's no longer the simple beach shot, it's become an involved and complex image with so much more to look at and let the eye wander. Glad you uploaded it, for sure. Creative spin. thank you, Rose Cat!

I thought I'd try out the new super improved Trigraphy on this. Then into iColorama for blending and to disguise that glare on the sand a bit and to bring out the footprints. The birds are a brush in iColorama.

Very nice. I've not played with that app nor heard of it, Trigraphy. Love the add in birds and blue is my favorite color. Great editing.
