We will invite members to edit one of our images. Images will be available for one week. We'll take four names at a time (see list here).

People offering an image will give some guidance/make some specific(ish) requests, e.g:
    • I'd like to see this image *pop* more
    • Not sure of the best crop
    • Any iColorama [or other app] suggestions?
    • How would you make this image into a mono?
    • How would you make it an abstract?
    • I seem to have lost the detail of the building/tree/people - can you bring it back without losing the fog?
    • How would you make the most of this mistake I made?
    • Only straight processing, please - nothing 'arty'
    • Knock yourself out - surprise me!
    • And so on

    Roolz for contributing editors:
    1. Please respect requests (and the image) of the person offering. I.e: Don't offer a Decim8'd abstract if s/he has asked for 'straight processing only'. And vv. Don't add anything to the image that the original maker wouldn't be able to add her/himself: i.e., nothing from your own camera roll.
    2. Please provide a brief summary of and rationale for your editing processes (this is a group learning process).

    Roolz for people offering images:
    1. Please be clear about what you'd like to see from others' expertises (see example q's above).
    2. Please acknowledge and comment briefly on each edit offered -- and offer a little wrap-up at the end of the week. Anything that struck you about a particular edit of your image? Something you've learned? An app you simply must purchase & learn? However you wrap up is up to you: but we'll all be holding our breath to hear what you think.

Please browse the thoughtful feedback and comments from our beta testers here
See the beta tests #1 #2 #3 and #4 for examples of previous questions and offered edits

    Mobi Challenge guidelines are here.

Image #11 will be from JillyG!

Here we are then. I did use one similar to this in my 365 where I made it into a sepia image, but I really think it ought to be a better image than it actually is. Please improve it in any way you see fit.

It's pretty darn good as is. Short of setting the tower on fire, I'm not sure what to change. Time to think a bit...

Well, you say that, but I look at it and am dissatisfied and I can't tell you why. I expect I'll know why when I see yours and everyone else's edits.:D

The main thing I did here was to use Enlight's Refit tool to move the horses closer to the tower (and to each other). Beyond that, I applied the Provia film filter in RNI Films and then tinkered with lighting and stuff in ACDSee Pro and Snapseed.

And there we are. It's soooo much better. I think the composition now is great and you've lightened everything; it's got more "life".

I tried an app that works similar to Enlight's Refit but did not like the distortion in the trees so decided to leave the crop as it was.

I took a page from Jilly's Book of Cropping Secrets, and kept just the horses. I couldn't get the tones I wanted.... maybe because there was a predominance of green? so I gave it a mono look.

I found the green of the grass hard to work with too. I don't know why, but it seemed to go off -- look unnatural -- quite often while I was making adjustments.

I agree with RoseCat -- the first one has a lovely pictorial look with those warm pinks.

This was edited in iColorama using the simplify method
    IMG_2843.JPG
This was edited in iC Painter (Beta 1.3 (26)) with the mask on certain areas of the photo like edge of the castle and the horses
    IMG_2847.JPG
This was edited in Brushstroke and Effexy for emboss and texture
Back to iColorama to bend in the top image to bring out the horses
Have to upload using my mobile data
My internet connection still slow to upload

Nice work. That first version also looks like it could be combined with another version or used as the basis for further elaboration in another app.

    Yes you are right
For the third image I did blend the edited image with the first image to have a bit more detail on the horses

Wow Larry, you've gone to town! These are amazing. It makes me think I'm really pedestrian when faced with a landscape. I would never have thought of putting in a mountain for instance.

Three great images Kuan Meng. I didn't know you could mask in iC Painter. You've done a wonderful job of showcasing these four apps.

In a sense the iC-Painter can be mask
It will not mask to show the actual image only it paints fewer brush strokes on the parts of the image you mask to make it a bit clearer than the rest of the image
As in my second image I only mask the horses and the of the castle to bring them out a bit If I did not mask them be blur and painted over like the rest of the image

You blend a snow cap mountain onto the 2nd image
    Lovely thought
Nice edit and I still could not find the Yang Jia's apps in the app store
