Had so much fun messing around with Colorburn at the coffee shop that I'm afraid it's another.

So this next one is a bit weird. I went over by ferry to sort out some of our visas and right next to the ferry entrance was this man. He was holding some fishing line which went into the drain?? Was he fishing?? I mean it was right next to the sea or is there a simple answer. He doesn't look like an official taking a sample or anything. I gotta tell you, nothing surprises me here any more.

Gorgeous and hilarious. The red lanterns are stunning. And the man? Who knows, but you've got us all thinking now.

I think he just wasn't out for hunting. Fishing is (or was) a kind of zen thing. Watch the surface and reflect inside through all you different thoughts until you are distracted by a fish that pulls on your line. And if you just want to focus and don't need fish you can do it anywhere. My dad used to sit hours and wait, rarely caught a fish. And he was just thinking. I was bored and did something else. Nowadays I would play with the phone, back then I built pipes from wood, or crafted something with leaves and sticks or read a book.

    Cool!!!
I'm having a bit of frustration with it... but I know part of that is because "I want to learn it fast and I want to do it NOW!!!" (said in the voice of Violet Beauregarde)

Yes, I fiddled with it for a while before I sort of got the hang of it. For the multiple exposures, keep pressing the small button until you want to finalise it. So for every shape that flashes point the camera in that area and press the small button. You can also touch the area and the focus circle will come up and it will focus in this area.

Hmmm...so you can't upload images for the double exposures, you must shoot the images?

I don't remember any flashing shapes... will have to test it again.

Yes, I'm afraid so. I had a go to see if you could but doesn't look like it. As you tap a photo it changes to the photo mode.

Had an awesome evening. Just got back from a Brian Adams concert. He posted a shot of the audience on his Instagram during the show but we are just out of the photo.

I've seen Brian Adams about three times in London and he's such good value. He just doesn't want to get off the stage. great photos.

Yes, we saw him at Hampton Court too and despite the fact that this is a more intimate setting, this one had more atmosphere.

Sundays are what I personally call Filipino Day here in Hong Kong. The filipino helpers are often expected by their employers to get out of the apartments on Sunday. This is not true for all employers but for most. The result is that the streets are swarming with helpers and on a cold day like today it cannot be pleasant. Yes, it is 15 degrees which doesn't seem cold but if you are out there all day and there is a bit of a wind it is not fun. By the way this excludes helpers who are kept as virtual slaves! So you ask, why don't they go to a cafe and have a coffee? Because that's a lot of money for them and they can't afford it. Many will cook food on Saturday (if they are allowed!) to bring out on Sunday. People say that they are better off here than back in their own country but I tell you I wouldn't like the life most of them have here. And they never have any rights - even those who have been here for 20 years or more are not allowed to stay. The Philippines is no longer their home but nor is Hong Kong.
    Snapseed.jpg
Many of them put up cardboard partitions to get some privacy or so that they can sleep if they want.

There are some people who look after their helpers. My friend Isabel, a Scot, really looks after her helper and pays for her daughter to come and visit over Christmas while they are away. I think she has quite a decent size room and Isabel has given her a TV and she has access to the internet. But her helper worries about the time when Isabel goes back to the UK. She has been here for over 20 years and doesn't want to go back. Also Hong Kong is expensive. Even if you pay them well, it is only ever pocket money. They have this crazy system here whereby they have to go back to the Philippines if they change their employer and reapply so they have to pay for the flights which they can ill afford.

We have a helper's room, it's 4ft 4in x 6ft 4in which we use as a junk room, hardly enough place for a mattress. Off it is a small loo with a hand shower.

I have umm and ahhh about whether to post such photos because I don't want to make this a political forum. However, here are two articles if anybody is interested:

    Wow, that sounds sad.
Thank you for giving us such an insight. I really pity for them. And for all those who were treated alike in many other countries, but just behind closed curtains …
