I've become a bit of a pro at organising holidays now but honestly having sites like Tripadvisor means it's hard to get it wrong and many hotels and b&bs have improved immensely because of it. One of the hotels I stayed in Vietnam 18 months ago was at the top now they aren't anywhere to be seen. Usually I would have just gone back to the same place and probably been disappointed but now I have the means of evaluating how good a hotel remains. I also find interesting things to do which one wouldn't normally know about.

I always booked holidays with a travel agent back in the UK and the advantage is that the holiday is protected if something should go wrong (like an earthquake) but I have saved a fortune doing it myself. I seldom have to pay for the hotel upfront and can cancel a week before I go. It's only the flights I might lose and they probably wouldn't be flying anyway.

I'm building up to my 3 month countdown. It starts tomorrow.

I am presently on holiday in the place that I call heaven, delirious with all the wonderful nature around me. Here I get close to one of my favourite animals, the Dusky Leaf Monkey. They seldom get tame but they feel safe around the hotel where we are staying and this is the closest you will probably get to them. I hope when they renovate the hotel at the end of 2017 they remain safe. Unfortunately last time the construction workers set traps for the animals. However, the resident nature professional, Irshad Mobarak, will be around and the architect and hotel are aware of the problem.

I'm not much into apes. Probably because they are too similar to us/me. But these with their glasses are really cute! And out in the "wild" I like (nearly) every animal.
Your film is really, really great!!

Today I went down to breakfast and did a detour through reception to see if the Colugo and her baby are there as usual. I did find one but this one doesn't seem to have a baby. So well camouflaged you can hardly see it.

    Both edited in Snapseed

What's a colugo you ask? One of the most fascinating animals I have ever seen. It's a primate and it's head looks very much like that of a squirrels or bush baby with big eyes. It took a long time for scientists to agree on what it actually was and how it should be categorised but it is sort of classified as a type of flying monkey. It is also known as a Flying Lemur although not a true lemur. It has a massive webbed skin and is the most successful gliding mammal being able to glide as far as 136 metres with only a loss of about 12 metres in height.

I have cheated a bit here and taken a photo of my iPad as my husband downloaded a couple of his best pics onto it from his DSLR to see them full size. He got a great photo of the colugo's head:

    IMG_6563.JPG

This is one of five gliding/flying animals on Langkawi. Also the large Flying Fox (which is really a bat), the flying lizard, the flying squirrel and lastly a flying snake which fortunately is the only one of this lot that I haven't seen!

Tonight coming back from the forest in the dark we saw a civit cat. Wow, the amount of wildlife here never ceases to amaze me.

Why, thank you, Gouvy. I do enjoy putting these movies together but it is more difficult than I thought it would be to make them so that they are not too long and boring.

Know what you mean and it takes much longer to cut and merge them than to record it. that's why cutter is a profession. If anyone could do it films wouldn't be in cinemas/theatres any more.

And yes, when I made out on your picture what that colugo must be I thought "wait a moment, this is no ape. Looks like a "Gleithörnchen" which means gliding squirrel and so you told us later. and the classify these as apes? the fox and snake too?

And this squirrel is an animal I fancy. All that looks cute and cuddly except apes.

Always check your flights especially if they have been booked long in advance!! Also, always print them the day you make the booking to make sure you don't think you are going senile when they have been changed.

When coming on this holiday we decided to get to the airport early so that we could eat supper before boarding the plane neither of us being that mad about airline food and me being GF. It was a shock to discover on checking in that the flight had been brought forward an hour. Thank goodness we were there early. Because of this we decided to check our flights for tomorrow to see that the times were the same. Not only were the flights not the same, the date had been changed to a day later! We frantically started checking flights for tomorrow to see if we could get a flight. The problem was the flight from here to Kuala Lumpar. There only seemed to be flights to a minor airport in KL and it would mean spending the whole day travelling rather than leaving at 3pm. We just couldn't face this and fight we might have to go through with the airline. In the end Tom said let's just book another night here and go with the new flights. Fortunately, he didn't have anything important he had to get done on Wednesday at working.

Yippee, I have been gifted another day in paradise!

When I said about the flying creatures that the only one I hadn't seen was the snake? Well Tom was walking up the steps and saw a snake which he photographed. He rushed back to me and asked if I wanted to see it but I've got to tell you that snakes are the one thing I'm petrified of. We had the photo ID'ed by the resident nature guy and he said it was a paradise tree snake. I have to say it is a beautiful snake.
