£19.99 for the first 100 - not sure on international posting though... :)

Leave a note here if you back it?

I'm not so sure on that one. I like the idea, but it's going to be limited by software - very little with work with it (possibly the shutter will work with apps that support volume shutter control). You'll be stuck with the app they provide with it for proper control, and we don't know what that will be like. If it's a great app, fine - but most of us have a preferred app to shoot with.

They're making an API available for developers, which is good - but then it comes down to whether devs want to support it. It's going to be an extra layer of complexity in the app, and extra stuff to maintain and support. That's fine if it sells in large quantities, but if it sells in low quantities, something doesn't work too well and you get a small but vocal group of customers who aren't happy.. it ends up being a lot of hassle for minimal reward. Expect most devs to wait for it to sell well (and prove it works well through the API) before supporting it.

It's a bit chicken and egg unfortunately - it needs app support to really take off, but app support will mostly come after it takes off.

I'm not sure on the ergonomics too. Surely the shutter button should be at the edge for easy access, as that's the part you're going to be using the most? Instead the mode switch (which isn't going to get much support initially at least) is there. But maybe it makes more sense in hand, and it is in the right place.. we need somebody to try it out really :)

Oh, last thing: the case is a fixed size. If the iphone 5s/6/whatever has a slightly different shape, it's no longer going to fit. Hopefully the company will do well and will sell a new case, and it's not an issue, but I'd be much more comfortable buying something like that if it was a simple clamp-on design.

All good questions sir - but it is very promising they are releasing the API - could be as big as ollo in the future! As for ergonomics - I am a big fan!

Have contacted the developer and invited him to join Mobi so he can answer some of these queries - hope he takes me up on the offer :)

Well, for nineteen little squidleys I think it is worth a punt and I am happy to support such initiatives for our sport... ;)

So I am in and I wish them well... :D

And I don't see the case issue being such a problem, the i4 and i5 are, after all, already different sizes... :rog:

Hopefully they'll take that up :) It's a tough one for them I guess - they'll face potentially hard questions, possibly without answers that are convincing enough. On the other hand, it's a kickstarter thing, and good early feedback (which they're likely to get here) can be a great thing. And if they have really good answers at the ready, they'll get a fair few more people ponying up :) (I'll go for it myself perhaps, but I'll need some convincing - especially on the API / 3rd party support bits!)

Ven: thinking about it, the 'buttons' bit is separate from the 'plastic case' part. And it's bluetooth controlled. It can probably be attached to pretty much any phone or case with a bit of string and bluetack.

Exciting stuff - they only have £1.7k of their £18k target to go - and 19 days to do it in!

    Anyone else pledged?

Reckon they should do that easily in time, there is normally a last minute push that ends up raking it in for such projects... :D

I'm already in, so I do hope they make it... :rog:

This looks cool. But it wouldn't work for my street stuff. It would just draw attention to me. I prefer to look like a person checking messages.

Good point. One of the iPhone major strengths as a camera is its 'stealthy' profile. :)

So you wouldn't use it for your street stuff. I'm intrigued by the fact that you can snap it in or out as needed...

I also use a bulky case. I drop stuff. My last phone got water damage from shooting in light rain. Im a mess. So I have case that protects from nuclear events ;)
